Recycle Our Stories

Unless otherwise noted, OnEarth stories are available for online republication by news media outlets under the following conditions:

  • The writer(s) must be credited with a byline.
  • You must note prominently at the top of the story that it was originally published by OnEarth and link to the original at OnEarth.org. We prefer something like "This article was originally published by OnEarth magazine" or "This story originally appeared at OnEarth.org."
  • If at all possible, you should include our logo somewhere in your version of the story and link from the image to OnEarth.org. The logo can be found here. Feel free to resize as appropriate.
  • You must include the following PixelPing tracking code somewhere in the HTML of the story, preferably near the top (it should be invisible to your readers): <script type="text/javascript" src="http://archive.onearth.org/http://www.onearth.org/sites/www.onearth.org/modules/onearth_pixelping/pixel.js"></script> (For more about how this works and why we're doing it, see this description of PixelPing from ProPublica, which uses a similar tracking code.)
  • The story cannot be edited (beyond simple things such as time and place elements, style, and grammar).
  • You can’t resell the story in any form or grant republishing rights to other outlets.
  • You can’t republish our material wholesale or automatically. You need to select stories individually.
  • You can't republish the photos or graphics on our site without specific permission.
  • You should drop us a note to let us know when you’ve used one of our stories (this is optional, but we sure appreciate it).
