Reporting and commentary from OnEarth editors and correspondents
We are promoting the use of Diatom algae to consume CO2, N and P in water. Diatoms are the best food for fish, shrimp and oysters, so they do not accumulate in the water. Diatoms give huge amounts of oxygen. Excess CO2 in water results in acidification. Excess N in water results in eutrophication and methane emissions (especially in Arctic). Excess P in water results in eutrophication of lakes. There is a common solution to deal with all these excesses - Diatoms. They consume CO2, N and P like any other phytoplankton or plant and give oxygen, the difference is that they are the best food for crustaceans and fish. We have an unique solution to cause the native diatoms to grow in any waterway.
